One of my most embarassing moments. Standing in front of a class, Philosophy: Ethics. Sort of a graded recitation in which we defend our answers. The question was, "What is time?". I can't believe this is a very difficult question. I was given 15 minutes and that whole time, I couldn't answer.
I would say time is the Universe
The sad thing is that by the end of the day, I was able to come up with something to say. It was something like it defines and distinguishes the continuation of the past, present and future. Well, something derived from Star Trek, I'm sure...
Time is a unit of measurement germain only to our reality!
You are absolutely right that it's very hard to give the simple answer to the question: what is time? I think that there are several answers to this question because different sciences give the different answers to this question. I think that the rightest answer had been given by the physicists.
Time is a human construct used to ease our minds that order exists in all things.
Ordo ab Chao...
Diversity is the best steward of life, thus chaos is preferable to order; and time being enslaved to things like a clock has really lessened our ability to understand it for what it is - a boundless energy source we could use to boil water and thus, make electricity!
Time is the one which we cannot stop. What is time is really a typical question to answer. It is not because there are no answers. It is because there are many answers for this question that it may take several hours to get to the answer the one who questions needed. No one can stop and revrse the time, what we can do is reverse the time in or watches..
Oh hell I thought Thyme was a herbal substance!
