Is it just that piracy is a hotter news topic in the last few days, or do you think that there will definitely be an increase in pirate attacks as a result of the US navy snipers killing the pirates last week?
I think they might lie low... If they have benefactors who organise them like a terrorist cell, they might have learned from this experience. Something tells me the media has found a new darling for a bit of a news cycle, then it will be on to the next new thing, like new ways of boiling water to produce electricity.
The media just needed something sensational to report on for a few days. The pirates or their handlers are pissed and are now stepping up their activity. They know there are limited resources in the area to prevent them from business as usual so they have turned out their soldiers to exploit the situation.
I would prefer the media focus on the "Tea party" events happening today - after all it is the day of government piracy!

Hey Fremen do you bath in hot or cold water? just curious my friend!
Well since the Captain was rescued there has been more attacks. Or at least more televised attacks and take-overs. No US Ships yet. 2 US ships have fought off and got away since.
The pirates have vowed revenge.
What do they think will happen? You take a Captain or any US person captive.. It's against the law.
As long as countries, companies etc. keep paying them for ransomed ships, they will keep operating. Until more US ships become involved, My stance is keep our involvement to a preincident basis. and then only when our assets are involved.
No, I think it's 'America, Fuck Yeah!' time - carpet bomb the ports of Somalia and hell, do the whole country while we're at it! Can't cost that much and the losses will be minimal. Somalia, heh, tiny little nothing country.
Hey Fremen I am with you on that idea - lets field test some of our older nuclear warheads - one or two should do the job! We better start replacing them anyway with more current ones since Iran and N Korea are powering up! God I love a good war! Money to be made, populations to reduce and of course all the romance of it all! Just think of all the new films Hollywood could make, several genre could benefit, war documentaries, military films, horror films, action films, love stories, then of course cooking with nuclear radiation for the Gourmet TV channel!
Let them rib baby - flash, boom, bang and Somalia is no longer a problem!
Piracy is something that cannot be eliminated in a fortnight. Modern time piracy is related to hunger and poverty and until this diseases are finished off piracy would always remain a problem for trading people. We need a broad approach to tackle piracy apart from shooting bullets.

NAWWWW! Just wipe out anyone standing in the way of unfettered growth while stealing private property. There is no greater sin than that of being born in a resource-rich country with no modern infrastructure - bad luck, son, so sorry - your very existence is immoral

Well that's what Governments do ya know
Piracy has been around for ever. Yes even when humans communed in small scale collectives piracy or raids from other groups took place. It always has been and always will be part of the human experience! Regardless of scale!
I'm sure that the cruelest methods should be used to stop the piracy. We are living in the 21 century and it's a shame not to stop such lawlessness.
the only way to stop piracy is to make places like Somalia a better place to live in, not a place where the maximum is age is 30, until then... YARRRRRRR

Doesn't matter how "nice" or "better" a place is to live, you'll always have criminals. It's all about balance, you can't have "good" without "bad", pleasure without pain, rich without poor, success without failure, etc. etc. that's the nature of the universe.
