I read this in the Pee-Eye this morning. Joel Connelly is a liberal left-leaning reporter. Why would he write such a piece?
Hmm...I hadn't seen that. I don't know why he would write something like that, but it was definitely interesting to read. Unexpectedly, certainly. Hopefully someone else will weigh in on why he might have written that.
Living in BC I think I can comment on this with some degree of personal knowledge.
1.) Insulting Canada was offside.. But it is TRUE that while the Bush terrorist regime was in power we were condescending. Make no mistake about that. But, so was the rest of the friggin planet and many in the US!
2.) It's MOSTLY TRUE! Harper is a complete nut job. Mind you I don't agree one bit about the comparrison between him and cheny. Cheny is a war-mongering asshole puppet. Harper is just a JERK.
3.) It's true what he wrote about our federal govt. Harper was about to be booted from office - and he jammed and had parliament sent home.
4.) The opposition (made up of 3 parties) will boot his ass out HOPEFULLY next week.
5.) We actually had a federal election during the same time that Obama was being voted in! (American's never notice this - and we're ok with that!) Harper won by a slim margin...while the other 3 parties took more seats. This gave him (once again) a minority govt.
6.) It is true that we are also in a recession - I am a little shocked that this article isn't boasting how the US economy has an effect on the world....thus including canada. These sorts of articles usually do this. But clearly the US has an effect on our economy...and thus we get to enjoy the same sorts of economic downturns you do...but on a smaller scale.
7.) We're not nearly as bad off as the US and our recession is expected to last a short period of time.
8.) The article tone seems to be a bit offensive...almost combative...but you know, as Canadians, we don't really care. We won't take issue with what the US thinks right now...because more than ever Canada is supportive of the President of the United States of America.
9.) We had parties starting at 7 am on Jan 20th. Thousands of Canadians took part in celebrating the most historic election in the US. We are all proud of the American people for putting in Obama...and we breathed a sigh of relief when he was elected.
The article is really kind of off. It's comparing the joy felt by Americans with the election of Obama...with the grief felt by Canadians having to go through a recession.
Hmmm...odd comparrison to say the least. Perhaps a better comparrison would be American and Canadian recessions....or Comparing approval ratings for Harper vs. Obama. That would seem normal. This article mixes apples with spare tires.
I would expect an article like this from Fox News and not the SeattlePI. I was left puzzled ans to why he would publish something like that after an election. He should be glad that Canada is not only a good neighbor, but a good ally as well.
WTF?
Maybe Canadians are gloomy because it is so cold up there? Or maybe it's because hockey players don't want to be paid in that Monopoly money they have up there so they can't field a team capable of winning the Stanley Cup? Also, Degrassi is lame. (PS, I really do love Canada and Canadians, just trying to stir things up).
ppffttt...
First off- its not nearly as cold here as it is in most parts of the US. While you may be south of the border...in most cases we're literally an hour apart in distance. Brat
Second, mentioning HOCKEY with a Canuck hoton your heals is dangerous! FYI - our dollar was higher than the US dolar in the past year............... As for the Players......another lil FYI....the Canadian teams collect revenue in Canadian dollars.........but the players are paid in US dollars.
Third.......in terms of "fielding a team to win Lord Stanley...." er...how many players on ANY US team are NOT Canadian???? Hmmm???? lol Lets see, of the 729 players in the NHL...378 are from...wassat??? CANADA! That's right....CANADA. (Theres a reason for this that has nothing to do with climate...I'll explain later). There is a total of 154 American players, and the other 17 countries who currently have players make up the remaining 179. That tellsme that there are more foreign players (outside Can and the US) in the NHL, than there are Americans.
And the reason why Canada has so many players?
Because it's OUR GAME!
ok...ya stirred it! But for the record Canadians love the Yankees too.
maybe he has some incentive for swinging around like that?
i dont know actually but will go through for sure and tell something
