Every year, so many people promise at the beginning of the year to lose a certain amount of weight. With that in mind, so few actually succeed. Will anyone be successful this year?
I usually manage to return to my vacation weight in time to squeeze into my favorite corset.
I don't think I will have a problem with a repeat performance this year. In fact, it will probably be easier if the economy keeps going down the same road.
My goal is to gain nothing!
My goal is to keep on living and not let the craziness dictate my appearance!
I'm sure many people will make this goal and reach it. My goal is to eat healthier- hey if losing some of the extra pounds comes with that- it's a plus!
I don't just make this goal for a resolution. I try to do it throughout the year.
As summer gets closer-- I seem to get better at sticking to it!
Me too. Pot Roast looks REAL good when its -10 outside.......

I'm bucking for a promotion so I've been working out and trying to lose some weight (and increase my PT stats), and it really isn't as hard as some people would make it seem.
Here are some interesting tidbits for people who want to make that weight loss goal, or just want to trim up for health or beach reasons:
1) Drink tons of water! Fat cells have very little (almost none) water in them, so if you are fat, it's not because you are retaining water. Also, if your body is lacking in water, it will go into camel mode, and lower your metabolism. That's not good.
2) Find a specific time to work out each day or every other day, and religiously stick to that schedule for a week or two. After a week or two, it becomes an ingrained thing. If you miss it, your body will notice, so it is more likely you will keep working out.
3) Running burns carbs, walking burns fat. You don't have to run 5 miles each day to get decent weight loss (you will get shin splints, though!), just walking for 30-60 minutes a day or every other day will do wonders for your health.
4) Set goals, both short and long term. If your long term goal is 20 pounds of weight loss, set a smaller goal each week (for example: "Today I weigh 210 pounds, next week I want to weigh 208"). Be sure to be realistic, too. Losing more than 2-3 pounds a week should be the goal, as opposed to wanting to lose 10 pounds in 1 week. Two wrongs don't make a right, and you won't get "health" by persuing it in an unhealthy manner.
5) A little MP3 player or radio will do wonders for you workout. If by mile 1 you are bored out of your mind, you will probably stop before reaching mile 2. This will keep your MIND occupied while you are working on your body.
6) If you plan on running on a treadmill, raise the elevation by 3 to get the same benefit as running on the actual road.

Good stuff, SM!
I've been working out only as I have a really bad back and a torn miniscus in my right knee, so my regimen is a little different. On top of that, we've had a record snow here this year. So, I'm slugging it out the best I can. Sitting in front of a computer is what kills me. I'll be off to the health club soon....
Sitting in front of a computer no doubt killed the fitness I once had. I used to be capable of running 2 miles in 12:30, and I am slowly trying to make my way back to that time, but I still have minutes (plural) to shave off.
Do you have a pool close to your home? Swimming is just as good a cardio workout as running, but is far better on your joints.
That torn miniscus affects my ability to kick, but to answer your question, yes! The local YMCA here has 4 swimming facilities. And all are excellent. I'm just trying to strenghten my knee so I can kick again. Some movements kill me. Just movements.....

Yep, ever since I got out of the Marines and got into the IT field my body went to shit. My annual PFT was under 20 Min 3 mile, and maxed the rest, 20 pull ups and 80 situps. What really killed my health was 5 years on the road, airlines, time zones and restaurant food.
Yup. I gotta get up and move. I'll talk with you guys in a couple of hours!
I have been a gym-junkie for the past 12 years now. After the first year I began to compete on an ammature level (ladies all-naturals). I gave that up because 1. I never won.
and 2. The carb depletion that we had to do before a show made me a real bitch to be around. My daughter hated it.
Now I just go for 1.5 hrs. a day every morning 6 days a week. It's more about having time to myself than anything. I also do personal training for the gym I go to - on a fairly irregular basis.
As for my eating habits. Well, they suck. I eat junk food and other bad stuff...and love it all.
I just have to work like a son-of-a-bitch to make sure it doesn't go to my ass!
I'll probably not lose the same 5-10lbs I've gained since I hit 40, but no one even seems to notice the weight gain but me (probably my own vanity, as I've always been quite thin). It bugs me, but I'm healthy and I walk (in spite of smoking) so I won't stress over it too much.

My Uncle lived into his early 90's living off of junk food, smoking camel straights since he was twelve, loved his beer, etc. Thing was he was a Farmer who was very active all his life
My mother is the same way. She smoked until she was 50. She's now 86. She's doing well after last week's episode.....
That's good to hear MF.
I quit smoking in Sept....but alas...confession...I had a relapse this week... Spazzed out, bought a pack...and will begin taking that friggin Champix again this week.
It's a fight I'm not willing to back down from. Plus my kid caught me...and she was reeeally upset over it. So, the pressure is on to get back on track.
Man, that's tough. I picked up again when my relationship went south. I've quit quite a few times, the most recent was two days ago. I like to smoke. What can I say. But relatives hanging around can make that real difficult, eh? Hang in there, girl.
Yea, the kids now a days will kick some ass over that shit.
I used to make promises to myself every new years eve but I was never able to keep them. I stopped doing it therefor so I don't have to disappoint myself yet again.
I'm looking to not lose 5 (I'm pretty close to my target weight).
I do admit that every year I make a promise to get healthy and loose wright but this year I am determined to get back in shape, so far after 1 week I have lost 4lbs,, not much but early days yet.
I had dropped about 10 pounds prior to Thanksgiving, but then things kind of got put on hold for the holidays. But since last week I've started working out harder with the special aid of a supplement. I've lost 3 pounds just since last Monday.
I've always been reasonably thin, but the closer I get to 40 the harder it is to lose...I promised myself a 10-15 pound weight loss (and keep it off) this year, but I'm not stressing over it or starving myself. I'm just trying to make better choices enough of the times that I can lose the weight slowly. Then it will stay off instead of coming back. So far I've lost 4 pounds and it's not come back, so it's time to lose 4 more.
Though I will not consider it my goal for this year, but I would love to gain some weight
I was born skinny and it seems to be my permanent problem to reach my ideal weight. Well, losing weight and gaining weight, they will always be our challenge every year.
I don't know if I'll meet my goal, but I've lost 5lbs. so far, so I'm off to a good start.
I lost 10 pounds last year but regained 5 pounds during the holidays. I am hoping that this year, I will lose that extra 5 pounds.
I am planning to lose additional 10 pounds this year. So far I have lost 3 pounds, only 7 more pounds to go before I achieve my target weight.
I seem to not gain or lose any weight depending what I eat
. So I guess I shouldn't worry about being under/over weight?
I never take any resolution every year. Because i never keep up it. Moreover i am not so fat, so i did't tried anything to loose my weight.
I guess that it depends on each individual. Not everyone could keep up to their promise.
For me, I don't like to make a promise to myself of loosing extra pounds. I am just going to exercise daily.
My aim is to add 10 to 15 pound of weight this year ,because i going slimmer day by day,so i am going to eat a lot and try to gain some weight.
