Windows 7

First off I have to make it clear, no it's not going to be my default but I do have to be familiar with it.  So I installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my Netbook to mess about with it for a while.  It actually runs rather well on on this Atom single core CPU, of course the ION by Nvidia makes a huge difference.  But I must say MS has finally released an OS that is usable, my first impressions are seriously this is the best release MS has done.

Anyway am I going to stick with it?  No, I just need to somewhat literate with it due to my profession.  Would I pay for it?  Well if MS actually dropped the price of the OS significantly I would.  I have a MSDN subscription through work so I get the OS's for free along with their developer tools and resources.

Well I'll be running it on my Netbook for a couple of weeks because as with MS every release they make pretty drastic changes that makes upgrades extremely painful Eye-wink

Wow! That's a milestone, Pagan! To get you to say anything good about M$ is quite an achievement. But, I agree. It is a stable system and is what Vista should have been in the first place. Funny how that works. When they release shit, they are sent off scrambling to correct it, much like they did after ME and Win2K.....

Re: Windows 7

When they do something at least 1/2 way right I'll complement them, it's still got issues but honestly it's the first 1/2 decent OS I've seen out of Redmond ya know.  But as I mentioned it's still obscenely over priced, they really would sell a shit load more and save huge amount of money/resources that they throw at at fighting the loosing battle of piracy "if" they brought the price down ya know.

Re: Windows 7

Win 7 came preloaded on a desktop I recently purchased.  It is a reasonable upgrade from XP and most certainly is a more than worthy successor to Vista.  Like all new major OS revisions there are new menus and configuration changes that require familiarization but it isn't too bad all in all.  It runs open Office just fine and they continue to improve their networking functionality/auto config. for the end users.  Other than being a resource pig which is to be expected anymore it is still running on that machine.

Windows 7, what can I say.  Its the best Microsoft OS since Dos 5 came out and about three quarters of the way to OSX and abou half way to OS2. Anyway they might get it right in the next 15 years.....

Re: Windows 7

As far as MS goes, Win 7 is very nice.  But I'm still a Linux geek, only thing I use Win 7 for is testing and it runs as a VM, oh and the occasional game.

Re: Windows 7

It's been sometime since I first started to play with Wn7 -  I have to admit it all in all not a bad OS and to date the best MS has delivered.  I run Linux, Win7, and OSX10 here to test al lof my shit on before release to production.  Although I am prone to use Mint as my OS for just playing around, surfing, email etc. I am realizing I go to Win7 more and more for certain activities.  I really feel in all fairness Win7 is a pretty good OS - nothing is perfect, otherwise why are we still developing improvements!

Re: Windows 7

When I finaly get my office in order and I get my network back up I wiill be running Linux,(Ubuntu, Opensuse and Smoothwall), Macintosh and Windows 7 alll at the same time.  I also wiil run Red Hat Enterprise and Oracle on my DB machine.   I will run 5 different computers plus my firewall all at once.   So I am in reality "The Uber Geek".  My powemac is for web related code monkey stuff and my Imac is my mulitmedia machine.  I like ubuntu as my personal desktop and Opensuse for my proffessional code monkey stuff.  I could run stuff virtual but I kind of like double and triple booting instead. Yea I know I am being so ancient.....
