I've been through this topic ad-nauseum back in 2005 and went to war with many over this piece. I acknowledge that it does bring up many good points and in worse case highlights the utter ignorance of the White House who knew this was coming.

Regardless of all the suspicions, conspiracy claims and debate surrounding the 911 event - the cold reality is that thousands of innocent lives were lost. That is the real tragedy and story. IMO the pertinent question becomes what are we going to do to prevent similar events from happening ever again?

Correct Pagan the means need to be justified first and foremost. That demands open and fair debate when considering them prior to enactment. It is the knee jerk response that will bite us in the ass. Our governments reaction to 911 is a prime case in point. We reacted without knowing who the aggressors where, there was no real plan developed before action was taken and look what we got! Emotionalism allowed things to be rushed and approved and then put into action - bad call! Again look what that behavior has provided us!
Consider the current and popular cliche' "never let a good crisis go to waste", now that is pure fucking stupid. Sounds so good it is repeated daily, but buy into that mindset and we are really fucked. Another case in point regarding my position on this is the Stimulus package and the Toxic Asset program. No transparency or debate was really permitted! Again look at the results of these actions - failure in providing any sustainable solution. Danger Will Rogers Danger!

It all goes to my "Opinion" that the American Society is all about "Quick and Immediate Gratification", no one thinks beyond the "right here and now".
