What music helps you to relax?

I prefer to listen to some hard rock,or even some country. What a combo I know. But it all depends on what mood I am in when I feel the need to relax and get away. So do you prefer?

Depends on the mood and my taste ranges from Punk to Classical. I also reject commercial broadcast garbage, 99.99% of everything I listen too is streamed off the internet. Currently I'm listening to some Punk from Killed by Death , good stuff. Then I'll move on over to Magnatune which has an excellent selection, I especially like Beth Quist, her stuff is excellent. Yesterday I was in the mood for some Elvis, especially his Rockabilly and Gospel. Elvis's Amazing Grace just reaches down and grabs you by your soul!

Pagan, Have you ever heard of

Pagan,
Have you ever heard of a magazine called AdBusters? It's world-wide but printed here in BC. Based on what you have written re: music, I think you would totally enjoy the magazine (which comes with this serious CD of music that's right up your alley!)

Anyway, I have been getting it since 2000 myself...and there's not one copy that has dissapointed me. Here's a couple links. Seriously, check em out I think you will enjoy...

http://www.adbusters.org/

Hey, I did a search and was unable to get a link to the music... Is there any way I can just use the CD on my end here and post it to your site?

I wake up to rock. I don't exactly relax to it. I range all over the place, also depending upon my mood. Right now, I'm listening to the Bodeans. I love cooking to classical, love to rock in the car, and love some real good new age stuff. Anyone remember Kitaro when he first came out? I saw him live in Tiburon back in the eighties.

I enjoy many different types

I enjoy many different types of music for different tasks or moods:

For relaxing I prefer Techno, usually Trance or House, although some local alternative finds its way into my listening in the form of Deathcab for Cutie or Modest Mouse (older Modest Mouse). If I'm driving, usually I prefer something with a good beat that is fast, like Rage Against the Machine or old NOFX or Butt Trumpet. I like listening to Punk and Rock when I'm working out/ jogging. My MP3 player will spurt a mix of Brand New, Operation Ivy, the Killers, and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.

Of course, sometimes I get that weird feeling for Prokofiev or Frank Sinatra. Usually Frank goes down smooth when I'm relaxing with a glass of Scotch (as opposed to just regular relaxing).

I also like listening to a range of classic rock and jazz, but for relaxation I go for classical music.

I prefer pieces from the Baroque era I guess, and chamber music in general. I find I like this when I'm driving in rush hour traffic or working at the computer.

I fully support the independent Texas music scene. It is mostly country but you wouldn't recognize it if you listen to the crap they play on the radio most of time. Also introduced me to some great bands in other genres, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers (formerly the Refreshments) being one of them. Everybody should give them a listen.

It depends on my mood and what I feel like listening too. However, I've often found that the best music for relaxation is classical or jazz. Most of the time though, I listen to some variety of rock.

It all depends on my mood. When I am trying to sleep, I listen to instrumental piano music. If I want to calm down after being mad, I listen to rock, alternative and R & B.

I have to agree -- it depends on my mood. I like most types of music, so I may listen to heavy metal one day and classical or blues or rap on another day.

I listen to this track right here, a remix of the Touhou track Beloved Tomboyish Girl, remixed by the group Liverne. I think this one is a lot better than the original.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEPyE80wKn8

Wish I knew how to rearrange the music in Touhou, I'd replace all the music with the more awesome remixes. Not saying ZUN isn't a good composer (He's quite excellent), but you tend to get tired of UN Owen Was Her? the 20th time you try to beat Flandre. XD

Re: What music helps you to relax?

If I just want to go to sleep Pink Floyd works fine. Mostly these days I find myself listening to Dark Ambient or Industrial Music, I still love metal but have to say I am very sick of anything mainstream. Just don't feel like there is alot happening in music these days. Even the alternative stations are playing music thats over 10 years old. EMO and Screamo stuff dominate this areas rock stations. :frustrated:  Well I don't skate and I have no desire to die so I guess internet radio is the choice for me. I click around alot.

Sometimes it's classical, sometimes it's pop, and sometimes it's country.  I like a variety of music, and as others have said, it so often just depends on my mood at the time.
