Lightning

It is estimated that each thunder lightning storm consists of massive energy with in them. Further a single lightning thunder storm energy can power the entire US for 3 months with out any power losses.

I personally feel that if someone comes with an innovative idea of tapping the energy from the thunder storms we may never have to worry about most of the global warming problems.

Re: Lightning

Who in their right mind beside Ben Franklin would run a line up and into a lighten storm! But it is a green idea - did that receive any stimulus funding?
Shocked

Nice information. Better approach from Some research organisations, they may be.....................

Re: Lightning

Science is trieng to trap the ligthning energy but to be frank no one has succeded

we havent created as much resistance to trap the lightning

becasue its not coming at our home electricity volts we cant store it and use it

If we can find a way to decrease the volts of a thunder then we can use the energy

Re: Lightning

Problems I see.

  • Randomness of Lightning Storms. Well, I guess we could just watch the weatherman. {roll eyes}
  • Speed that the power is released. Storage of energy take time. The power from Lighting is released in fractions of seconds.
  • Size of equipment needed to harness the power

Good Luck

One storm can power up to three months for the entire US, and some places in America are serious hotspots for thunderstorms.

* Speed that the power is released. Storage of energy take time. The power from Lighting is released in fractions of seconds.

That's one issue.

* Size of equipment needed to harness the power

But it'll be damn well worth it.

Pipe dreaming IMO.  Harnessing lightening and storing it then delivering it will happen right after elephants come flying out my ass!

AO, when we harness lightning, I'll make sure to send an industrial-sized tub of lube, you'll need it.

Lightning is very powerful.  It is to control it.  I believe that it can supply the country's need on electricity but we have to wait until someone find the way to harness it and then use it as an alternative sourse of energy.

Right now, let's just be contented with other alternative energy like solar energy, wind, energy and others.

Maybe what we'll end up seeing is a power factory with hundreds of kites in the air during a lightening storm.  All of the kite lines would be hooked to a gigantic key that would direct the electricity into some kind of storage container.  Laughing out loud

Man always tried his best to get whatever is created by nature and left to be invented or discovered. So, right from the first morse messaging, to flying, to ISS, we human, our forefathers and our current generation of scientist are thriving to invent new things for the upliftment of humankind. One day will come to capture the lightning nature to light moon right from earth.

It's one very dangerous quest for advancement, that's for sure. I'm not sure lightning is anything that can be harvested.

Re: Lightning

Many scientists have tried to get electricity with lightnings, but no one succedded.

This might be because, lightning is a natural one which when comes no on knows...

Even if luckly, we were able to see it and take that energy, we wouldn't find a mass storage one to store such a huge energy...

Re: Lightning

I have just had an brillant idea regarding harvesting of lightening.  How about we ask Al Gore to gather his minions and they fly kites in electrical storms to combat global warming!  I have a jar full of old keys I am willing to contribute to the effort!
