Okay, okay. I understand. You're probably thinking right now that "what kind of question is that?" This is somthing that I want to b discussed about by those who believe IN a god. Not the question if there is a god but which one? I mean, assuming but not concding to the fact that there is a god, how come it should be tha father of Christ, Allah, Buddah or whatever. Hope this becomes a peaceful discussion. Gulp*
Nicely put.
My problems over religion beyond my own personal views comes into play when power and greed usurp religion's attempts at doing good. Not one of them can prove they are any better than the other, so they should not compete, but instead, work together in my mind, and have a high degree of respect towards each other. They could learn much by doing this.
God. Is what YOU believe. It's impossible for me or anyone else to define that belief.
I'm interested, Boan, in your take on evangelising. You are some form of Catholic, right? You have reconciled the dogma inherent in an organised religion with your personal values, would you care to talk a little about that?
I have experienced divinity. I am convinced of the existence of Consciousness and boundless Lifeforce, that I am a squirt of that totality. Is that god?
God has worked, and is continuing to work in my life. What happens in your life is your experience. What I am not willing to do is have a debate on the existance. There are points in my life where telling my story is necessary and important, but I will not dangle for ridicule. I don't think I am better than anyone else, that is counter to Christianity. Much in this world really makes me sad however. Then I see people who put complete and utter false safety in the belief of God (God will take care of me, even though I am heading to work on a fish processor for 6 weeks and made my roommate who I have known for a few months power of attorney over my bank account that has a direct deposit set up... yes, current event right now that frustrates me. God also gave you common sense, use it!!). Some dogma scares me, and I am thankful to have the ability for discernment.
Well Solje there is a big difference, as long as I've known you and from what I have seen in your posts you have never taken a Dogmatic approach. I respect that, in fact I respect all peoples religious beliefs. Where I get aggressive is when some take the Dogmatic approach and attempts to shove it down everyones throat.
Keep living your religion by your example, you're doing fine IMO.
I defnitely think other beliefs are interesting. Many of which I can see where connections meet and paths change regarding my own. I tend to keep my mouth shut when it gets beyond my comfort level though.

You're keeping your mind open which is a good thing. I look at it this way, listening and learning about other beliefs results in not only a better understanding of others but it also serves to strengthen you own. I have come to the conclusion that those who practice absolute Dogma and attempt to silence the beliefs of others do it because they're weak on their own beliefs.
I believe it just as a supreme power which guide us.
Respecting other religion and thier belief and respecting you for who you are is what I say just don't shove it to my throught that this religion is better than this religion.
Absolutely there is a god - we here in the U.S. call him/she/it the Almighty Dollar. Although of late it has been downsided a bit to status of a lessor god!
IMO is there a god? No
God/gods were first nothing more than an explanation for the unknown which was soon discovered to be an easy way to control the "Herd" and institutionalized to become religion.
I believe there's a god, basically because I believe existence came from somewhere, and where else. Although I am Catholic, I don't go to church, or attend in ceremonies. When I pray, I do it anywhere, not on houses of worship, on my own time, when I want to speak to God.
A few years back, I challenged my friend, who happens to be from a different branch of Christianity on why he believes there's a God. His reasoning was, on the day of his judgment and he went on with his life believing in God, he's sort of, good, safe. But if ever that he didn't, he would burn...
Sort of a logical approach, but I found it a lame reason to have faith...
This sums up my stance on religion.
"I love your Christ, but I hate his followers."
Yes there is a "god entity" we are all part of it. It is the collective sum of all of our awareness on a spiritual level. By the way I am the god of hellfire! Piss me off and I will roast your ass!
Is there a god?
Look in the mirror.
"Is there a God?" This question is answered by asking another, "how did we get here?" 20th century science has demonstrated, with certainty, that the universe is not eternal; the universe had a beginning. Actually, mankind has contemplated this issue for millennia, long before science proved a beginning. In all that time, man has conceived of only two possible solutions -- either Someone made the world, or the world made itself. Some scientists are saying that the world was created by a big explosion. Then also another question arises. How did that explosion happened?Unless we can demonstrate the world is capable of creating itself, God is the default.
I mm not religious and I dont believe in Christ, Rama ,Krishna, Allah Or Budhdha. I certainly belive that there is some power which is responsible for all the things happening in this world. There is some power which is making us Good human beings and showing us which is right and which is wrong.

Anyways the world would have been a whole different place since he is "benevolent" (if God was reall),
Do you actually believe that the world is 10,000 years old? What about fossils? "God put them there to test us" right?
Why do people always come back with the argument that somehow bible believing Christians (or even Jews) think the world is only 10,000 years old? Seriously? Do you think bible believing Christians think that, or are you just being obtuse and repeating an idiot argument? Free will injected into people will bring about heinous events--or positive events. One never knows. Believing that Jesus is the savior may not bring someone ultimate luxury in life, but if one believes in the resurrection, and with every fiber of their being believe this, what's it to you? Ridicule? Jesus was persecuted to death. If simple ridicule is all you have to throw at a Christian, that is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.
Guess what? People are tested DAILY whether you believe in God, Jesus, or your cat.
As a strong believer in god, there is a whole lot of different perspective exists between others and me. At the same time, I would like to put forth a brief in believing and thinking on one's own as a super human being. The best part of believing in god is not saying there is no God but repeatedly stating that if there is God, then why the whole lot of mess happening around the globe which can be simply stopped at an instance by God. It is not that way. Take for example, you want to open a company and run it. Think of the things you will do to start. First, business idea. second, a place. third people to run the organisation. Then as human nature, to make profit. So does God also created the Universe and we - the human being for a purpose best known to him. But, being as a superior being of all the existing creatures with a sixth sense, we question the existence of God. Let's again get back to business. When you run a business, you motive is only to make profit. Likewise, to me God's perspective may be to instill virtue (Profit) in all human being while co-existing with all other forms of his creature. To achieve the profit, you have a plan, get people to execute it, correct all the way if anyone commits a mistake or give a pink slip (good bye to your soul) if someone is really not worth or ruining your organisation. Likewise, God may have a plan to give life and take it back. So, some super human beings may argue when I am not bothered about my neighbours, why should I bother about God. So, if there is any danger to "VIRTUE", I believe God will take his own form to get rid of the evil forces threatening the very existence of "VIRTUE."
The question or argument is non-falsifiable - it simply can't be proven or disproven, so the only option is to accept the concept and base it on faith or reject it based on lack of proof. It is an individual call.
Whatever be the religion of the person, but we should know first that god is one he loves all of us,as he created all.
God stays in our heart not in the mind so why should we further discuss about it.
