Pelosi vs. Pope on abortion

Jesus christ!!!
I just read on Faux news that the pope flipped on pelosi for being a catholic and being pro-choice! LOL
The responses from faux-news readers is pretty telling of the demographic reading the story.
"And she calls herself a catholic!" screams one moron.
"she does NOT respresent the catholic church!" bitches another nutjob.

Last time I checked, her job was NOT to represent the damn church. Laughing out loud

While I may not have a whole lot of respect for this woman, I DO respect the fact that she stands by women on this issue...and will stand up to the catholic church as part of that process.

I agree, wholeheartedly,

I agree, wholeheartedly, Lynn

There are many catholics who wish the pope would just stay out of politics. He and the church have no standing and no basis for a position like this after allowing boy molesting priests to roam their institutions for over 40 years. This almost brought the catholic church to its knees. Surely, they could find better ways for their efforts besides politics. If I were Pelosi, I would remind him of their tax exempt status and ask him if he wish that to remain the same.

But, unfortunately, she has no balls either. Both are simply grandstanding here.

Were I do agree that if a religious organisation gets involved with Politics they loose their tax exempt status. But expecting the Pope or any other Catholic leader to remain silent on a fundamental issue to their core beliefs is also wrong.

The catholic church has been

The catholic church has been looking for a foothold in North-American politics since inception, you can't blame a guy for trying. He is a figurehead of patriarchy and women are just leaving him behind as it should be. You want to kill a god, stop listening to him - why a shriveled, insignificant icon of the oldest of the Old Guard should get the ear of any progressive person is beyond me.

omg

You did it again Freman!
Good post. I also agree with MF and Pagan. The CC should be taxed to the tits for even SAYING Pelosi should conduct herself in her career first as a catholic...second as a politician. Negating the FACT that the crazy woman is supposed to REPRESENT the PEOPLE....many of which are NOT catholic!

MF - so true about the perverts who roamed...............and still to this very day....roam....the church harming children.
I was raised a roman catholic. I detest that religion more than ANY other religion (yup...that's what I said)... It is the ONE religion I give NO credit to...whatsoever...because of the inherant hypocrisy it oozes.

Their meeting, nor his

Their meeting, nor his guidance, violates any tax law.

Why progressive person chooses a religion such as Catholicism is beyond me?

Yeah, you could definitely interpolate that I think Pelosi is progressive from my statement, but for the record, I don't. Also for the record, I don't fault a person for their faith, it's their labor to work it out in private.

It's a known fact that most people are born into their "religion". Choice often ends there. As for me, an ex-catholic, I don't hold a grudge against the church where I went to school, even though the priest who never hit on me is indeed in jail. I was shocked to learn this a few years back. He always seemed like a real nice guy to me. Now I know why. And I also know why those whom he preyed upon acted the way in which they did. It seemed strange to me at the time.

Regardless, my former church is a good place, that still lives in virtual poverty. yet gives what is has to the community. That in itself, I still find to be a most admirable quality. People have moved on and forgiven, which I also feel is a good quality. They don't thump their chest like the pope and meddle in affairs which they have no right to be involved in as a tax exempt organization. They just go about their business of bringing help and support to a world that needs it. They know better after what has happened on their dime.

Nothing from THIS story violates Tax exempt status laws.

If she used government money to fly over there, I want my part paid back, with interest.

The Catholic Church demanded

The Catholic Church demanded that a 9 y/o girl - raped by her stepfather - and carrying TWINS....should carry to term and have a c-section... CAN YOU FUCKING BELIEVE THIS ARROGANCE??????????????

9-Year-Old Girl Carrying Twins Has Abortion Despite Objections From Catholic Church
Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Print ShareThisRIO DE JANEIRO — A 9-year-old girl who was carrying twins, allegedly after being raped by her stepfather, underwent an abortion Wednesday despite complaints from Brazil's Roman Catholic church.

Police said the stepfather has been jailed since last week.

Abortion is illegal in Brazil, but judges can make exceptions if the mother's life is in danger or the fetus has no chance of survival.

Dr. Manny Blog: Tragedy of 9-Year-Old's Abortion

Fatima Maia, director of the public university hospital where the abortion was performed, said the 15-week-old pregnancy posed a serious risk to the 80-pound (36-kilogram) girl.

"She is very small. Her uterus doesn't have the ability to hold one, let alone two children," Maia told the Jornal do Brasil newspaper.

But Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in northeastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to term and had a Caesarean section.

"It's the law of God: Do not kill. We consider this murder," Miranda said in comments reported by O Globo.

Calls to Miranda were not immediately returned.

Brazil is home to more Catholics than any other nation

It's good to know some

It's good to know some humanity entered into this story, with some compassion and wisdom. Most of all, CHOICE!
Get thee behind me, Catholicism!

And I must say, that makes me quite happy and gives me some faith in humanity again. It's her job to be fair and impartial and consider what's best for EVERYONE, not to make decisions based on her religious (or at least the majority of her religion's) beliefs and whatnot. Fox News BLAH.
