The more I consider the state of affairs in this country and world I am beginning to wonder if much of the shit we are experienceing is becasue we have lost our commitment as a nation to the Judao-Christian values upon which this nation was founded. I suspect that as we turn away from the concept of "one nation under god" our problems will continue to expand.
I find the implicit and explicit mockery of a belief founded upon a higher diety to be less than humorous anymore. Without a belief in something that transends the immediate physical world there certainly isn't much cause for doing much of anything to promote peace and security in this world. As we take the "if it feels good do it" attitude why even consider the impact on others. There is no punishment or reward for our behaviors as humans. If we simply live and then die then lets just open the doors to any and all hedonistic behaviors and embrace them for there is no reason not to do so.
For myself I am reconsidering my position on god and/or a diety to which I am part of.
Now I have no interest in joining any organized religion, especially those that have reincarnation as a core belief. Imagine this, you are born, life is a struggle then you die. You are born, life is a struggle and you die - what a frightful concept, an of infinite loop of misery! Not my cup of tea really!
I certainly can't get behind the secular movement where government is "god" either - hell those bastards do nothing to improve my life or prospects for the future. So perhaps it is time to once again consider a more spiritual involvement in my life. I am not talking buying into some dogmatic line of bullshit like heaven or hell are the only choices either. For me hell would be coming back to this planet and having to once again experience it!

Yet, instead of choosing to live for their god or religion (yes, they are different), people seem to enjoy belittling everyone else's choice of deity.
