The New Terminator?

Has anyone seen the new Terminator? I think the movie looks really good, but I have heard people say that it is okay and to wait for the DVD. Anyone have anything to say about the movie?

I've only seen the trailers, but I'm interested.

I think it looks technically dark, which probably fits the setting and mood and I also think it seems to have visual elements that remind me of the wing fighters from Star Wars and at least one figure that reminds me of Transformers.

I'll probably buy it previously viewed on DVD.

No, I haven't seen it and I don't plan to, either.  I've never been a fan of this series of movies in the first place.  I do associate it with Arnold Schwarzennegger.  I'm almost afraid to see anyone else in it.

I actually gauge a lot of if I'll see a movie in the Theaters off of Roger Ebert's reviews.  He's got about a 80-90% hit rate with me when it comes down to what I think a good movie is.  I also like the way he rates movies, by what they set out to be.  If they set out to be a "fun" movie he won't rate it as a serious movie but what it was intended to be, I like that.

Has anyone caught the "Deadwood" series? I ran across it recently and have found myself amazed at the reflection of true reality. The language is harsh but totally appropriate within the context of the story.
Anyway though I would mention that in case anyone is interested.
Also being a SciFi fan this new Warehouse 13 series is worth checking out as well.
Both beat watching the fucking news in my opinion for entertainment value.

Deadwood was an excellent series, but like anything good (Firefly, Rome, Carnival, etc.) they killed the series.  HBO really has a bad habit of this, thus one of the reasons why I no longer subscribe to any Cable/Satellite services.

Carnival was developed by my brother-in-laws youngest brother, he was the head writer for that series. He did another one before that for HBO, for the life of me its name escapes me at the moment.

I think I will order the Deadwood series if it is available. I typically watch little TV, but having been sick and in bed most of the month I have began watching the tube more.
I have Direct TV mainly so I can get international news to supplement the crap we get nationally.

I'm so fucking pissed they just out and dropped Carnival, that series was excellent.  I was actually thinking of caving in and ordering Cable just so I could watch it, but HBO did what HBO does, kills an excellent and popular series out of the blue.  Tell him to let his little brother know what he developed was brilliant and the assholes who killed it are keeping paying customers away  Eye-wink

Anyway, yeah there's some really good series out there.  I've been buying the Dexter series by Showtime when they release them, but I will not do broadcast media.  If a series is good I buy it on DVD, no hassle with the in your face advertising.  Cool

Re: The New Terminator?

I think that Terminator: Salvation was good, but it has some sort of similarity with The Matrix.  It showed how machines dominated the environment and cities becoming wastelands and how man goes into hiding for survival.  It also has kind of an Architect scene (end of Matrix Revolutions) in the end.  Storywise, I'd give it a 5 out of 10, but then, I can't blame the writers.  What I could see though is how they prepare the story for the next Terminator movie, on how Kyle Reese (John Connor's father) would travel back in time in order to complete the cycle of the very first Terminator movie.  I don't regret watching it on the big screen.  I enjoyed the impact of the audio and great shots.  What I do regret most watching in theater was The Watchmen.

Personally, I love the concept of Terminator and Matrix.  It brings about ideas of possibilities and consequences of artificial intelligence, which right now, scientists would like to achieve.

Re: The New Terminator?

Because I have seen at least two of the Terminator movies in theaters, I would be willing to - as I did with Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - get it on DVD.

The only part of the franchise I didn't like much was the TV series, The Sarah Connor Chronicles.  It lacked Linda Hamilton, and it meandered about too much for my taste.
