I was wanting to know if anyone else has seen this Japanese movie. Basically, the plot is, a class of 9th grade students are sent to an island to participate in a government run program to kill each other. That is about as much as I can say without giving too much away. I have to say this movie is one of my favorites, and the novel that the movie is based on is just as good. I would definitely check it out!
I own the DVD, great flick. It's what I call a way to deal with spoiled Punks
Have you happened to see the second one as well? It isn't really as good as the first one, but it is still good. I like how they came up with an after story and had a different way of doing things. The only problem I had was when they were going after the "gang", if one person dies, the other person in the same number of their class died as well. That was stupid in my opinion, but added ways of getting more deaths quickly.

Yep, own the DVD also, actually I've got the Blu-ray double feature
Still my favorite Asian flicks are Old Boy and Audition. Old Boy is brilliant, it takes revenge to a pure art form. Takashi Miike's Audition is also a brilliant piece, very disturbing, well actually both are very disturbing but make you think.
Its a fantastic movie that's for sure. I've seen it quite a few times now, most book adaptions aren't that great, but that was a notable exception.
That Kiriyama was one fucked up kid.
Seriously if you wanna watch a "chilling" movie check out Takashi Miike's "Audition"
As one reviewer once put it -
"(The director's) most notorious headfuck, a blind-date nightmare."
- Dennis Lim, Village Voice

Uzumaki is an even bigger mindfuck, the manga it was based on was pretty damn surreal, but the movie is high-octane nightmare fuel.
Can we come to a consensus that the Japanese do the best horror flicks? I loved the original Ring, that was damn good.
I tend to think that Asians do better horror flicks than western movie producers could ever come up with. Somehow, the Asian producers are able to really get into the head of the viewer and really mess things up and scare you sensless.
I read the manga Gyo. Bad idea, had nightmares involving piranhas with mechanical legs. Jesus CHRIST how do the Japanese know what will scare the shit out of the rest of us?
I love Battle Royale, which I own thanks to Pagan! Audition is pretty magical too, considering Takashi Miike is my favorite Japanese director. Love Old Boy too but I think I prefer Lady Vengeance of the trilogy.
