Well, that's not quite true. We knew Marilyn Chambers, if you know what I mean. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

All silliness aside, I have to say I was a little sad to hear that Ms. Chambers died yesterday at the age of 56, cause currently unknown. While best known for her work in the adult film industry, Marilyn Chambers also played the lead role in the Cronenberg oldie but goodie Rabid. Where else can you get a blood-thirsty armpit monster that turns unsuspecting Canadians into ravenous zombies, eh? Sadly, Chambers' solid performance did not pave the way for a bright future in mainstream cinema but I will be forever grateful that she gave me Rabid.

What a sad note to learn

What a sad note to learn that. All silliness aside Ms. Chambers had some real talent and I hope she finds respect and recognition in the next dimension. She certainly delivered a new level of professionalism and talent to adult and artistic films. As they say the best die young!

Yes let's put aside the

Yes let's put aside the "Silliness" and I also have to comment on what I liked about Marilyn. She didn't give a shit what people thought nor did she follow the "Herd". She did have some real talent and it's a shame that the Mainstream never could get beyond her "Adult" films. I've always found it so hypocritical in this country about the way American Society views sex but gorges itself in extreme violence. Now don't get me wrong, there's a time and a place for some real gore and I enjoy a good violent film (if it's done well) along with the next guy. But let's be serious, WTF is up with society here and it's hang up with what people do in private?

Anyway if whether you like them or not both Marilyn and yes Madonna I've always respected them for being themselves and not following the "Herd". So long Marilyn and yes I also hope you find your well deserved respect. But knowing you I really don't think you'd give a shit, you followed your own path.

Cheers Mate!

Well stated, Pagan. Although

Well stated, Pagan. Although I knew very little about her personal life, what you say rings true to this soul. It's amazing what happens when a person has to live with a label. Ron Jeremy is another person that comes to mind here. I've seen him on reality shows and he's a very nice man who happens to have done some work in the porn industry. He's actually an animals rights advocate, makes a lot of sense and doesn't subscribe to the herd. Just what you stated about Marilyn here.

Thanks, I very well meant everything I said about her. Also the movie she did with Cronenberg, "Rapid" is a good flick. It's a low budget movie but done well and Marilyn did an excellent job, I recommend watching it if you haven't already seen it.

I agree with MF on this one, the horror genre bores me now. If I want horror these days, I watch a documentary.

A good movie is one that has plenty of "Boobs" and "Beheadings". Cool

I'm a leg man - watch the mother of your child breast feed for two years and see if boobs are exciting anymore. Beheadings are grisly - but hilarious if used in the context of shutting someone up. I don't need to see that crap for entertainment anymore.
Don't get me wrong - I'd watch Let the RIght One In, but it doesn't strike me like a horror movie - more like a fairy tale. That goes for tales like Ringu and The Company of Wolves, etc.

Oh there's a time and a place, sometimes one just needs a bit of gore to unwind. But personally it all comes down to context in my book. Hollywood crap I avoid these days, but there's some great stuff though. I love Rob Zombie's "House of 10,000 Corpses" and "The Devil's Rejects", great flick. Then I also love "Feast", it's an excellent monster flick. But you also have to go with the classic's like "The Blob", "Psycho" etc. I was raised on the classic's and still get a kick out of them. The first "Friday the 13th" and "Halloween" was great, but the sequels went downhill fast. I must say though Rob Zombie's remake of "Halloween" was great. Anyway sometimes one needs to just sit down and watch a good Zombie, Monster or Psycho Killer flick ya know.

Rabid is a horror classic

Rabid is a horror classic and one of the best of Cronenberg's early efforts. I think it's ashame that Chambers's daughter had to be the one to find her body. Marilyn Chambers had a long history of drug and alcohol abuse, so I wouldn't be surprised if her death wasn't related to that either directly or indirectly.

Yes it is, it was actually the first movie I took my first "true love" to, so it brings back fond memories. Domo Kun
That and yes it's a shame her daughter was the one to find her. I also read that she either died during or just after a good romp, hence the reason she was found nude. So if one has to go, that's the way to go in my book. I Worship Thee/Thou

"Say no more"... That's in a Python skit isn't it?

I wasn't familiar with Ms. Chambers films. I'd love to check out Rabid for her performance and because it's a Cronenberg film.

I haven't given up on horror films.

Speaking of porn stars getting into mainstream, I happened to be working on the film set of Deathlands a few years ago and saw Traci Lords come onto set. I was immediately impressed with how nice she was, as well as how she asserted herself.

During a rehearsal, she asked the camera department to stop talking, which was kind of a ballsy thing to do considering the conversation was most likely about the shot, but I think it was part of her professionalism.

No doubt it distracted her as she is more familiar with little or no dialog aside from "Oh yeah, harder" or just heavy breathing with a few "oh my god" thrown in!

Well AO, I haven't seen

Well AO, I haven't seen Deathlands, but I dare say that the films you're referring to had better production value than it did. Eye-wink

My impression was that if someone would have said something like the above to her, they would have been in for more than they expected.

I never watched Deathlands so I can't comment on that film. Actually I have never seen any of her other films either but I will take your word they were of high production quality.

Traci Lords' entire porn

Traci Lords' entire porn career was when she was underage, save for one I think. She's been in a lot of great stuff since and I'm a big fan. She's great in Cry Baby, Serial Mom, and most recently, Zach and Miri Make a Porno.

As far as Marilyn Chambers goes, I'm pretty sure Rabid was her only non-Adult feature and she's pretty good in it. If you like Cronenberg, watch it!

And that is indeed from Monty Python.
