How large is your video library (or, if you prefer, DVD/Blu-ray collection)?

Ever since the home-video revolution of the early 1980s, I've been collecting movies for home viewing.  More often than not I saw them in theaters (Star Wars/Star Trek/Indiana Jones series) or are movies I either saw on TV or missed seeing altogether (the Mission:Impossible Tom Cruise flicks, Superman Returns).  And though I have not counted my current DVD collection, I think I have close to 100 feature films, as well as several miniseries (Band of Brothers, From the Eartb to the Moon) and eight Blu-rays.

To those with video libraries, how large is your collection?

I only have a few in my personal collections. I've got a few anime DVDs (Mostly violent ones since I'm a total gore nut), and I have... Life of Brian, Final Fantasy: Advent Children, complete first season of Code Lyoko, all the Spongbob season DVDs, and a few cop thrillers.

Same here..just have a few here and there in my personal collection. I've never been a huge movie collector, but I used to have a ton of c.d.'s. and still have about 500 albums.

I have a fairly large movie collection but many of them are VHS. Why are you folks discriminating against large boxy movies? They stillplay fine and can be picked up on the cheap. As a matter of fact. I got Crimson Tide, Hunt for the Red October, Far and Away, and a few others off Freecycle for, well FREE! Crimson Tide was still in the packaging!

Tapes wear out and are of poorer quality, honestly do yourself a favor and transfer them to DVD.  There's a lot of information on how to do this on the net, not to mention appliances for the "none" Geek to buy that will do it.

I used to tape movies off TV with VCR but more recently have been recoding on DVD.  I have maybe 150 or so DVD from TV.  As far as Blu-Ray, my step-son bought us one last Christmas but in comparison to the DVDs I have recorded and displayed on a 1080i 60" Sony , i am not seeing enough of a difference to invest alot of money into Blu-ray DVDs.  In fact very hard to tell which is better.  I love my HD TV and now with football starting, I am in hog heaven.

I've got such a huge collection I'm not going to replace the older DVD's "unless" there is a substantial difference, well other than some of my movies that are "special".  I've replaced my standard DVD's of things like Stargate, 5th element, Dark City, and all of my Criterion Akira Kurosawa moves (as Criterion releases them).  Other than that I just now buy new DVD's in Blu-ray format.  But yes there is a difference, not huge if the Standard DVD is a good quality, but there is a difference.

I'm still pissed that Sony did their back door deals to hedge out HD DVD which was a much superior format.  The player I have plays both HD DVD and Blu-ray so I'm good to go.
