Bad idea, turning the Military into a Social Project is a seriously bad idea.

Re: Repeal of DADT

Having been in the Navy, I think the logistics of having openly gay personnel is a nightmare. I don't want someone checking me out while I shower. Nor do I want to deal with two guys that decide to share their rack. (Would they consider just going full on coed with the latrines & showers?)

That being said, I think it is beyond shitty that a person can serve their country with honor and be seen in town with their (same sex) partner of choice and be booted from the military based solely on that.

Imagine, a person stands up for freedom and gets ostracized for exercising it.

Re: Repeal of DADT

It was only a matter of time before this happened.

Let's face, there have been gays in the military for years. Seeing as how Obomba and Company along with a few turncoat Repubs put this into action there's not much that can be done about it.

We went through this with Blacks joining the military, they were said to be inferior, then came the women. Now the gays, and there is a lot of pro and con about this both from the civilian and military side. It will be interesting to see what they come up with in as far as rule and regs.

I have read a lot of articles from the military on this and they are divided, but more accepting this then rejecting it. Time will tell.

It took more than just being out on the town. There had to be evidence, a investigation. If I saw somebody wqlk into a gay bar it wasnt as if I could report you and you would be kicked out.

And nothing in the military says you get all the freedom you want without repurcussions. I could suddenly decide i hate Asian people (my wife is Asian), and use my freedoms to voice that opinion. But I would find that for the common good my opinions can get me in trouble or get me kicked out. Some things are better kept to yourself, and homosexuality in the military is one of them.

And i have had to use communal showers with some homosexuals. Very uncomfortable. Not nice.

Strictly speaking you are correct but if they see Joe out kissing Bob and it makes it back to the command, everyone is on "high alert" watching for Joe to make a Gay reference or do something "gay". At that point it's only a matter of time before they are booted. What 15 year military person is going to take that chance?

A better example would be Joe and Bob send out a Christmas card kissing under the mistletoe.

Freedom never comes without repercussions. This is the same is for everyone in the United States. What we are talking about here is 2 consenting adults doing something outside of their normal military duties that in no way affects their ability to do their job.

Boan....

Seriously dude. The problem here is YOU. And your fear. Hardly any of this would happen in the military as fraternal relationships are considered taboo. The gays would also do nothing to help their cause by displaying such behavior, which seems to exist more in your own mind than in actual reality. Shit happens everywhere. With both sexes. Not just gays.

Now, go take your "shower".Rolling on the floor laughing  Rolling on the floor laughing

You are correct. It wouldn't happen VERY OFTEN. The fact that it would happen is no reason to keep homosexuals out of the military.

Re: Repeal of DADT

I came to the conclusion last night that this is another step in making military compulsory after age 18.

I believe our military is the best ever because it's all voluntary. I also don't believe the US Government should mandate anything to the people. Especially You MUST go into combat. I know we have had the draft before but I consider "we are in dire need of peolpe to fight" considerably different than an across the board "You must serve just because we think yo should".

Most volunteer for the benefits. Citizenship, college, health care, etc. Those are huge.

Absolutely. Some join to get a paycheck, but they still join of their own accord and not in front of the threat of imprisonment.
